A Court of Thorns and Roses completely swept me away. Sarah J. Maas takes the familiar shape of a fairy-tale retelling and turns it into something rich, dangerous, romantic, and full of magic. Feyre is a wonderfully compelling heroine: stubborn, brave, flawed, and easy to root for as she is pulled from the mortal world into the beautiful but treacherous lands of the fae.
What I loved most was the sense of atmosphere. The world feels lush and vivid, with enough danger lurking beneath the beauty to keep every chapter alive with tension. It has romance, adventure, mystery, and that irresistible feeling of stepping through a doorway into another realm. This is exactly the kind of imaginative, transporting story I adore β the sort of book I could happily lose myself in for hours, preferably outdoors with the real world quietly fading into the background.
