Overview
This collection of twenty-nine articles by international experts in the area of homiletics coincides with the revival of interest in preaching over the last twenty-five years. It is practical without being merely tips for preachers; and it offers the necessary theoretical discussion for anyone who wants to take the art of preaching seriously. No important issue has been omitted and, taken as a whole, the book constitutes a first class introduction to the principles, processes, context and theology of preaching.Synopsis
A database of articles about preaching that was begun a few years ago turned out to be of little use to the students, teachers, and preaching practitioners for whom it was created, because most of the articles were in journals that were not readily available to them. A team of editors took on the task of selecting, sourcing, editing, and compiling 29 articles on the principles, theology, and process of preaching. Among the themes are preaching scripture, personal qualities and the preacher, preaching and worship, the woman as preacher, and effectiveness and evaluation. Among specific topics are sermon introduction and communicational design, silence, African-American preaching, and the spiritual life stories of Pentecostal women preachers.
