Children's Literature
This is not the first book running alphabetically though the sights of Washington DC, and I am afraid that ones such as Capital!: Washington D.C. from A to Z by Laura Krauss Melmed and N Is for Our Nation's Capital: A Washington, DC Alphabet written by Marie and Roland Smith both do a better job. The pictures in Segal's book vary in quality and often are not of particular interest to young readers. Also, many of the examples are hardly specific to the capital city—apartment building, ATM, bench, construction crane, dogs, and much more are included. Many of the pictures are fuzzy and without any specific focal interest. The author claims that the book will appeal to those who live in the city as well as tourists, and that it will generate an appreciation of the objects and landmarks.
