Overview

A baby-sized introduction to sounds we hear every day, and a delightful companion to Baby Signs

Long before they can speak, babies are listening. And with this book of fourteen everyday sounds, babies and toddlers are encouraged to interact with parents, caregivers, and the noisy world around them in ways that widen their sensory awareness and expand their vocabulary. From a tweeting bird to clanging pots, a beeping phone to honking cars, the splash! of water to the sound of a kiss--mmmwah!--this book is full of the sounds that fill a baby's day. Perfect for little hands to grasp, this is a delightful stand-alone or a lovely companion to Baby Signs.

Publishers Weekly

This companion to Baby Signs (2008), which demonstrated how babies can use sign language to communicate with adults, doesn’t aim quite as high—it’s a straightforward introduction to everyday noises a small child might encounter. Allen’s cozy drawings center on a fuzzy-haired baby, who is first seen in his crib, listening to a bird tweeting and a cat meowing. The child later moves on to the kitchen to bang pots and pans; into the car seat, where vehicles honk and “vrooooom”; and into the washbasin with a splash. Up to age 2. (June)
