School Library Journal

Gr 1-4-Inviting introductions to the history, geography, and culture of these two countries. Each book follows the same organizational format. Clear and concise texts are written in large, bold font and the presentations include easy-to-use glossaries and indexes. Despite the simple language, the subject matter is not oversimplified and thebooks are jam-packed with interesting facts. Crisp, full-color photographs on every page add meaning to the ideas presented and provide visual treats. Primary students, emergent readers, and special-needs students will find these titles invaluable sources. This series is strikingly similar to the "SpyglassBooks" series (Compass Point) but it has a slightly higher vocabulary. Both series help to fill the gap that exists in nonfiction resources for younger students. Lively, accurate, and reader-friendly introductions to the study of these nations.-Robyn Walker, Elgin Court Public School, St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
