Gr 4-6The career of the Phoenix Suns star forward is covered in this very good sports biography. Knapp presents the details of Barkley's life in a matter-of-fact manner, blending personal anecdotes with plenty of play-by-play action on the court. The description of the gritty 1993 play-off series against the Bulls is a particularly effective way to open the book. Also, the strain that professional athletes put on their bodies comes through loud and clear in the recounting of the painful injuries Barkley has put up with over the years. The relevance of the sidebars, designed to supplement the text, is sometimes a bit of a stretch. There are a some good-quality black-and-white action photographs; however, most young fans would have appreciated even more. Notes for each chapter are included in the back of the book, along with a good index. Pro basketball has become the sport of the `90s, and libraries will find this biography of an established superstar most popular.Todd Morning, Schaumburg Township Public Library, IL
