This book demonstrates how to use French polish, varnishes, oil and wax finishes, natural and chemical stains, fumed finishes, and milk paint in an effort to achieve classic finishes. Allen, an expert in the field, provides good directions and helpful color illustrations. Nevertheless, he aims his comments at the experienced wood finisher; his excellent text is appropriate for meeting special needs but is more involved than the average woodworker would expect or need.
