Overview
A collection of captivating tritone images by noted photographer Henry Horenstein, Creatures is available for the first time in trade paperback. Featuring 57 portraits taken at zoos, aquariums, and in the wild, Creatures presents readers with a surprising, sometimes unsettling, view of animals, exotic and domestic. With an artist's eye, Horenstein documents the startling commonality between man and beast. Horenstein's Creatures have been exhibited in New York, Boston, and Houston, and the photographer has sold several fine-quality prints from the project, including many of the smiling Beluga whale, sleeping California Sea Lion, and Hippopotamus amphibious, the cover image. Just in time for the publication of the paperback edition, Creatures will be on display this spring at the Ellen Kim Murphy Gallery in Santa Monica.Henry Horenstein is the author of more than two dozen books for adults and children. His texts, such as Black and White Photography (Little, Brown), are widely used in college and art school classes throughout the United States. He teaches photography and illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design.
