Overview

Curriculum Webs helps educators, curriculum developers, and teachers build and use the World Wide Web as a central resource to facilitate learning. A curriculum web is a Web page or web site designed to support a unit of curriculum. This text describes the process of building curriculum webs from the early planning stages through design of the Web pages, using the finished product in classrooms, reflecting on the results, and revising for further use. Readers will see how successful Web-based curricula can be developed based on the stages of curriculum development and the needs of learners.

Synopsis

Rather than advising curriculum builders to simply sigh and join the march to the inevitable, Cunningham (National-Louis U.) and Billingsley (U. of Chicago Laboratory Schools) urge educators to use the web as part of their creative toolbox, and to build curricula that works not only on the web but in the minds of students to build connections and increase skills. This edition includes a new chapter on how to build web pages from start to finish, compares current software, and includes more information on streaming audio and video. Topics include planning curriculum for the web and identifying curriculum goals; creating a simple curriculum web and laying out an effective web page; planning instruction and assessment and choosing learning activities (including a collection of lesson plans); constructing interactivity; and teaching with curriculum webs. Especially helpful is the material on cascading style sheets and on basic design principles such as layout and color. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
