Overview

//WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE/

The Internet...a world without rules, without boundaries. Where you can be anyone you want, whoever you aren't. And it's all just a click away....

Nick Annunciato wants to impress his new girlfriend's father. So when he flies to Key West with his own father, who's a cookbook author and chef, and his stepsister, Annie, to attend a local food festival, he places an notice on the Internet: "I'm in Key West looking for the obvious contraband."

Nick does get a response. But what he doesn't realize is that he has unwittingly thrown himself and Annie into a dangerous swirl of murder, mayhem, and Cuban cigars. Who is the dead man missing a hand? Can Nick and Annie find the killer before he cooks up more trouble? Will this adventure be their last?

Different people in different places. The one thing they have in common is a new address on the Internet: danger.com. Where all your fears come true.

While on a brief vacation in Key West, sixteen-year-old Annie and her stepbrother Nick do an internet search that inadvertently involves them in a dangerous murder mystery.

School Library Journal

Gr 5-9--Nancy Drew meets the Hardy Boys in the `90s. Nick Annunciato and his stepsister Annie Hanley use their wits to solve a murder. The teens go with Nick's father, a chef, and Annie's mother to a culinary convention in Key West. When Nick tries to buy a box of Cuban cigars to impress his girlfriend's father, he and Annie discover that their contact is not only dead, but is also missing his left hand. On their way back to New York, someone pushes their car off the ferry--with them in it--and the teens find themselves over their heads in recipe theft and biological-weapons smuggling. These two sleuths take advantage of cyberspace and modern technology to solve a mystery that could endanger the world. The characters are fairly well rounded, and actions ring true. The mood stays fairly light in Annie's narration. Each chapter ends with a cliffhanger that makes the book hard to put down. Although familiar plot and predictable scenes will bring to mind every series mystery in or out of print, the current setting and Internet tie-in will attract mystery lovers.--Trish Anderson, Pinkerton Elementary School, Coppell, TX
