Overview

When former captain of this army and that, Phil Sheridan, lands on the shore of the forgotten Indonesian island of Kamling-jewel of the Banda Sea-he's captured instead of welcomed by warriors of a primitive and bloodthirsty tribe. Marched to the natives' camp, he meets Jose Emanuel Batista-one-time slave trafficker, long-time murderer, and now self-appointed tyrant.Using his smooth-talking tongue and shooting skills to escape, Sheridan finds temporary shelter at the lodgings of a miner and his beautiful daughter. With limited arms and supplies to hold off Batista and his men, Sheridan must take a desperate chance and journey ever deeper into the jungle. His plan? Enlist the help of headhunters who may be more interested in his head than in driving out Batista's regime and ending its tyrannical reign.

Publishers Weekly

Capt. Phil Sheridan unwittingly tests the adage that the enemy of my enemy is my friend when he arrives on the Indonesian island of Kamling and is quickly drawn into the feud between a devious slave trader and a gold miner. Phil sides with the miner, but the pair (along with the miner's daughter) have little to defend themselves with against the trader and his minions unless they enlist the natives for help. The musical score for this full-cast production does well to inspire a sense of urgency and excitement. The fighting scenes keep listeners en-gaged with the use of music, sound effects, and good emphasis and tone by the narrator. As with most pulp fiction, there are some elements (depictions of non-Europeans that are dubious at best, but the story itself is thrilling. The cast provides distinct and suitably dramatic voices for the genre. A Galaxy paperback. (June)

“The musical score for this full-cast production does well to inspire a sense of urgency and excitement. The fighting scenes keep listeners engaged with the use of music, sound effects, and good emphasis and tone by the narrator. ...the story itself is thrilling. “This is a continuous island adventure that keeps you waiting for the next chapter, in fact I found myself taking the long way a couple of times just so I could listen for a little longer. One thing to keep in mind, this is an L. Ron Hubbard story so expect some very interesting twists and turns in the plot and the story may go a direction you aren’t expecting. Just when you think you got it figured out and you’re having fun listening to the story, it turns out you’re still having fun, but it’s not what you think.”—Gil T’s Pleasure
