Reviewer:
Description:This book is somewhat unusual in that it brings together background information on adolescent tobacco use and school-based prevention efforts with an extensive description of a series of research studies developed and conducted by the team of authors.
Purpose:These research efforts seek to develop school-based tobacco use prevention and control programs.
Audience:This book is of interest to researchers in this field, health education practitioners in the field, policymakers who might seek more in-depth knowledge in this field, and anyone who might appreciate the intricacies of research methods. The book would be of much value to students and future researchers in tracing the research process from beginning to end and in providing examples of several research tools and products.
Features:There are ample charts, graphs, and tables provided to illuminate the research process and its findings. The references are very appropriate, plentiful and current. The most unique feature of this book is its value in presenting the what and how of an extensive and important research effort.
Assessment:This book fills an interesting niche in that it is a useful resource on school-based tobacco use prevention and control programs; at the same time, it is an excellent resource describing real-world research methods and tools. Although interested audiences may be limited, this book is well written, informative, and practical. It would make a useful addition to health sciences libraries, especially those at institutions of higher learning.
