Library Journal

Weishar presents an introduction to 3D modeling irrelevant of the specific application being used. In the first part of the book Weishar discusses platforms and packages, planning, modeling, textures, lighting, and rendering. The second half of the book includes case study interviews with 3D artists such as Robyn Miller of Myst, Ron Thorton of Babylon 5, and Chris Carter from National Geographic. This is an excellent book for designers and young people thinking about moving into 3D design.

Booknews

This guide for architects, designers, illustrators, and graphics professionals explains the basics of planning, modeling, texture mapping, lighting, and rendering a 3D project from an artistic, rather than a software manual, point of view. The volume is not intended for use with any particular software, and abundant color pictures illustrate concepts and serve as inspiration. Several case studies and interviews with prominent practitioners (including the creators of Myst) round out the presentation. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
