Children's Literature

Written by an entomologist, this book about dragonflies is one of a series of books about insects and spiders. Large, colorful photographs accompany an abundance of facts about dragonfliesβ€”their varied habitats, life cycle, predators, and defenses. Words printed in bold can be looked up in the glossary. Besides a table of contents and an index, a quiz is included near the end of the book with answers on the last page. "Fascinating Facts" and "Did you know?" information is written on colorful leaves throughout the text. This thorough and scientific examination of the lives of dragonflies would be helpful for students doing research, and the abundance of photographs would hold children's interest. Children should enjoy the section on "Weird and wonderful" dragonflies, and another section that explains how to collect and identify them. 2002 (orig. 2001), Chelsea House Publishers, Ages 8 to 12.
