Synopsis

"You must go to the dragon. You must leave tonight."

Before she even hears the words, Kaeldra already knows what she must do. She must search out the mother dragon whose draclings have just hatched and somehow get some of her precious milk. It's the only way to save her foster-sister's life. Kaeldra would rather not go. It's much too terriffying, much too dangerous. But Kaeldra knows that she's the only one who can do it. For she is the only one who can actually communicate with dragons.

But little does Kaeldra know what she's getting into. She's about to begin a journey that will entwine her fate with that of three little draclings and one would-be dragonslayer. A journey the will become a struggle for life.

Children's Literature

Here's a very interesting supposition. Dragons are reptiles, so there should be no such thing as dragons' milk, right? But dragons are also magic, so anything goes. Young Kaeldra is told that only dragons' milk can cure her foster sister's mysterious illness. Now, dragons are supposed to have left Elythia ages ago, but they left a clutch of eggs, which take 100 years to hatch. When the eggs hatch, the mother dragon will return. And rumor has it that a clutch of dragons' eggs has just hatched, so if Kaeldra finds it, and can persuade the mother to give her some milk . . . . Of course that would be too simple. For instance, how can she pay the dragon for her milk? To add to her troubles, a young dragon-slayer is also looking for the draclings (baby dragons). And Kaeldra has found out something very important, and rather scary. She can communicate with dragons. Recommended for anyone who loves fantasy.
