About the Authors
O. John Ma, MD, Vice Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine, Truman Medical Center; Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, Kansas City, Missouri Dr. Ma is the Principal Investigator for the national multi-center Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Registry. He is also co-editor of McGraw-Hill's highly successful Emergency Medicine Companion Handbook and Just The Facts in Emergency Medicine.
James R. Mateer, MD, RDMS, Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine, Medical College of Wisconsin; Attending Staff Physician, Waukesha Memorial Hospital, Waukesha, Wisconsin Dr. Mateer is regarded as one of the "founding fathers" of emergency ultrasound, and established the first emergency ultrasound fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was honored at the 2001 ACEP convention for his pioneering work in emergency ultrasound. In addition to being board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Mateer is a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
