School Library Journal

Gr 4-6A straightforward, fact-filled biography that provides descriptions of some of the biggest games in the Dallas Cowboy's star running back's high school, college, and pro football careers. Thornley points out that Smith's tremendous success has come in spite of those who have said that he's too small and too slow. Full-color and black-and-white photographs appear throughout the text. Smith's college and pro stats through the 1995 season are appended. There are a number of books available on the subject, all of which follow a similar pattern: early years, college, sports, charity work. The only advantage this has over others, such as Bill Gutman's Emmitt Smith (Millbrook, 1995), is that it covers Smith's career through the 1995 season. Otherwise, it's pretty much interchangeable with the earlier titles.Todd Morning, Schaumburg Township Public Library, IL
