Overview

Stephen Cartwright's charming characters come to life in these five cute Kid Kits. The pictures in these delightful board books show a duck, teddy, puppy, kitten or piglet hidden in everyday environments. The books have been specially devised to provide the very young with the challenge of something to look for and familiar objects to name. The plush pile puppets help act out each scene and will provide hours of enjoyment for very young children.

Children's Literature

With one simple sentence per page, very young children are guided through this story about a day in the life of a frisky puppy. He can be seen sitting on a chair at the table, peeking out from behind a cupboard and making a mess in the trash. The board book format, the accompanying plush finger puppet, and the text and illustrations all encourage interaction between the reader and the child. There are just enough details to elicit conversation. Playing with the finger puppet will extend the story. Part of the "Usborne Kid Kits," this is both age-appropriate and fun. 2000, EDC Publishing, $10.95. Ages 6 mo. to 3. Reviewer: Sharon Salluzzo
