Overview

Glasnost, the Russian word for "openness," is the new-era code for changes in the Soviet Union as instituted by General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev. Rather than re-digest Western opinions on Glasnost, Freedom House chose an alternate approach: on two different dates it invited leading dissidents and emigres from the USSR and East bloc countries to discuss the reform process in the USSR. This book presents a view of changes in the USSR through the eyes of those people who are intimately involved with the countries most affected by glasnost.
