Overview

From his large collection of baby books, Heppner displays the work of noted artists such as Frances Brundage, Maud Humphrey, Jessie Wilcox Smith and Ida Waugh. Babies bathe their teddy bears, exhibit various stages of glee and alarm, permit close inspections by older brothers and sisters, take outings with uniformed nannies, and pose in outfits that must have taken days to wash and iron. Sample pages include those designated for locks of hair, date the baby first wore "short clothes," lists of playmates, cute sayings, first words, and descriptions of holidays. Heppner includes a list of the babies whose books he shows here, as well as a current price list of baby books of the 1880 to 1930 era. Annotation Β©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
