Gr 3-6 Arnow does a superb job of chronicling the production of hay. Beginning with the preparation of the soil, each step of planting, growing, cutting, raking, and baling is described in a well-written text accompanied by one-third- to full-page black-and-white photos. The text is clear and concise. It contains just enough background information to be understandable without laboring the point. Unfamiliar terms are explained within the text, so a glossary is not needed. Although the exact methods of alfalfa production will vary from one region of the country to another, the basic concepts are well covered. This is an excel- lent choice for any agriculture collection. It is too bad that none of the photographs is in color. Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, Kans.
