Library Journal

Gr 4-6-While most books on this subject confine themselves to urban fire departments and are written for a younger audience, this one is designed as a career study for older readers. Maze covers many aspects of this taxing job, including urban, wildland, and international fire fighting. In addition, there are strong sections on history, famous people in the field (including two women), and related professions. There is an excellent and comprehensive section on related vocabulary, as well as a list of professional and safety organizations, government agencies, and fire museums. From its layout to its succinct writing style and excellent full-color photographs, Firefighter is a winner.-Barbara Buckley, Jericho Public Library, NY Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
