Gr 4-6-This is a basic, well-balanced, up-to-date introduction, although the question posed in the subtitle is never really addressed. Instead, the book touches upon the pros and cons of immigration. After a brief historical overview and a description of citizenship laws, subsequent chapters cover illegal aliens, whether allowing immigrants into the country is good for America, and problems such as the economic burden and language barrier. Pages highlighted with color treat selected current topics in greater depth. Adequate illustrations, many of them full-color photographs, accompany the text. The elementary reading level makes this book appropriate for older individuals gaining fluency in English.-Diane S. Marton, Arlington County Library, VA
