Children's Literature

This story follows a young boy and his bear friend who romp and rhyme through a world filled with berries of all kinds. The reader becomes "surrounded" with berries as they are counted at the beginning and later fill up a canoe, go over a dam to make a "waterfall," mix with animals at a country fair, fill up a farm, ride on a train, appear at a circus, and finally explode in the sky like a fireworks display. This is a diverting book designed to spark the imagination of very young children.

Editorials

Children's Literature - Dr. Judy Rowen

A celebration of berries, this exquisitely drawn tale follows a boy and a bear as they feast on freshly picked blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and more. The verse is often silly and almost nonsensical, with lots of rhyming and repetition. The illustrations are full of visual puns flowers look suspiciously like jam-filled cookies, water lilies have pats of butter inside, etc. Originally published in 1983, it is now available as a sturdy board book.
