School Library Journal
K-Gr 1-Each of these small-format titles introduces beginning readers to six to eight "sight words." On each spread, one of the words (like, of, out, them, she, two, etc.) is highlighted in the frame of a small magnifying glass and used in a simple sentence. Opposite this page is a full-page, full-color photograph that illustrates the sentence. Each book concludes with a five- or six-line illustrated story that incorporates the featured words. The last two pages list additional sight words. While the texts are clear and the photos of multiethnic children are appealing, these books would be more useful in a classroom setting than in libraries.-Susan Lissim, Dwight School, New York City Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
