Overview

This 1916 memoir recounts the author's experiences as a soldier in the British army.  Posing as a Canadian, Hall enlisted at the outbreak of World War I, ultimately serving as a machine gunner at the Battle of Loos in 1915, before his true identity was exposed, leading to his discharge.

About the Author, James Norman Hall

James Norman Hall (1887-1951) was an American writer.  He is best known for Mutiny on the Bounty (1932) and other works co-written with Charles Nordhoff, a fellow veteran.  Hall lived an exciting lifeβ€”from his exploits as a machine gunner and pilot in World War I to post-war adventures in Tahiti.
