Overview

The kitchen is the hub of the house: one that should function as an efficient work space, an inviting place for friends and family to gather, and a good-looking representative of the home’s overall style. Easy Transformations can help that happen, by providing all the design tools needed to create the ideal room. It covers every important element—layout, finishes, lighting, color, storage, surfaces, entertaining—and offers countless valuable ideas, big and small. See how to find the right style and reclaim old treasures for modern living; give personality to the kitchen with color; display collectibles; and play with patterns. There are quick kitchen facelifts, advice on sensational storage, plans for giving even small city kitchens some country-style charm, and sidebars throughout.

Library Journal

These books present a multitude of ideas for decorating kitchens in a country style. Skinner (Outdoor Rooms) has collected an abundance of color photographs depicting a variety of country looks. She highlights the diversity of this style, which probably accounts for its continued popularity.

Sweeney also shows a variety of styles in color photographs, including retro 1950s, French provincial, and modern. She gives practical advice in sidebars on such topics as caring for vintage linens and purchasing a vintage appliance and sprinkles decorating tips throughout. In both books, captions point out various decorating elements that can be used by amateur decorators. Both are recommended for public libraries.
