It is said that the world is getting smaller as our ability to connect with one another grows. It is becoming more and more apparent that people must reach out to one another to survive in the modern world. That is the message that the author of this book, one of the "Global Citizenship" series, is trying to get across. Watson examines the different ways that people connect and the effects of globalization. The book tackles some major economic and political issues such as international trade agreements and foreign aid, making these topics easy to understand. Alongside the use of traditional text, the book adds sidebars, case studies, charts, graphs, maps and color pictures. Like the other books in the series, it has vocabulary highlighted and defined throughout the text, a decent glossary and index and four hosts that give readers ideas on how to apply the information in their lives. The book is a good introduction to world affairs and a great conversation starter. It makes readers become more aware of the world around them. It would work as a companion text in a civics class.
