Synopsis

“Raymond, I want you!” Just when Raymond is in the middle of a comic book, his mother calls him. Not once but five times. “It's not fair!” Raymond thinks. Then he thinks: “What if I had my own MEANWHILE...?” Comic books always use MEANWHILE... to change the scene. So Raymond tries writing it on the wall behind his bed.

To his astonishment, Raymond discovers that he can MEANWHILE...from one perilous adventure to another'from pirates on the high seas, to Martians in outer space, to a posse and a mountain lion out West. Then, at the worst possible moment, Raymond's MEANWHILE... fails him, leaving him in a spot that spells certain doom! Unless . . .

Children's Literature

Raymond let his mother's words go through one ear and right out the other. He was too interested in his comic book to acknowledge his mother's calling. Hoping she would forget about him, he ignored her not once but five times. If only he could MEANWHILE... as in the comics. So Raymond scrawls MEANWHILE... on the wall behind his bed, and to his amazement, he discovers that he can MEANWHILE... Raymond flips from one adventure to another. He becomes a pirate, a Martian, and part of a posse. Just when he thinks everything will be fine, his MEANWHILE... leaves him in an uncertain predicament. Will it lead to certain disaster? Kids will enjoy the adventure and the delights that reading books can bring.

About the Author, Jules Feiffer

Beloved children s book author Jules Feiffer didn t start out with kid-friendly fare. After first gaining notoriety -- and a Pulitzer Prize -- for his stark, darkly comic political cartoons, he redrew himself as the creator of such charming kids tales as I m Not Bobby! and The House Across the Street.
