Children's Literature

Numerous books have been written about this star of the parquet floor. His rise to not only stardom, but super-stardom has been covered globally. Here, Raymond H. Miller does an effective job describing the career and rise to fame of basketball player Michael Jordan. In this volume of the "Stars of Sport" series, Michael Jordan's story, known far and wide, is told. His talent for the game was not immediately recognized or developed, but soon he would grow. His magic for the game became apparent during high school, but in college, under Coach Dean Smith at North Carolina, his abilities were stunted by the rigid system Smith had created and followed. Once he was drafted into the National Basketball Association, Michael not only blossomed, but exploded. Mr. Miller provides young readers a good history of one of the greats in basketball, many arguing the greatest. Not only did he vault his career, but he reinvigorated an interest in professional basketball, an enthusiasm that has yet to wane to the pre-Jordan years. This book is a valuable addition to any nonfiction collection. The photographs included help paint the picture of Jordan's amazing career. Included in the book are an index, bibliography and glossary. 2003, KidHaven Press, Ages 8 to 15.
