Milton Caniff's Steve Canyon: 1948

Year two on Steve Canyon sees comics master Milton Caniff truly hit his stride. Gorgeously rendered exotic locales, breathlessly paced adventure, and beautiful women as only Caniff could draw await in four story arcs: "Medical Sabotage," "The Nine Maid," "Convoy," "Plantation Sabotage," and "Puppy Love."

All of Caniff's other powers are on full display here: the sharp draftsmanship, heavy on the chiaroscuro; the vivid characterization, including the smitten female secretary who pines away for Steve while he remains oblivious of her interest; the slangy dialogue; the tantalizing way with a story line.
