Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

The stars of the show, past and present, are the focus in this title of the "MXplosion!" series. Early on, people like Jeff Smith of England, Joel Robert of Belgium and Marty Smith of the U.S. were the big names. The history of FID, AMA, XGames and the names of those who ride with style and what appears to be abandon are brought to the fore. The variationsβ€”Motocross, Supercross, Arenacross (smaller arenas), Supermoto, street racing and Freestyle (FMX)β€”are all described. Early superstars like DeCoster came to the U.S. to coach, and with his guidance U.S. teams started winning and winning in a big way. Riders like Jeremy McGrath and the "California Kid" became stars. A freestyle a trick called Nac-Nac made the fans take notice. There are quotes from the stars and a focus on Ricky Carmichael, known as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) while James "Bubba" Stewart is considered to be the Tiger Woods of motocross. Last but not least the book does have a section that features women who are now part of the sport. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
