Children's Literature
What makes a father? What name do you call your father? When did he meet you? Some fathers know their children the minute after they are born. Some, such as those who have adopted children or are stepdads, become families later in a child's life. This book will make a lovely Father's Day companion for small children. The book's photographs illustrate various cultures, ages, physical abilities, and socioeconomic groups. Occupations are shown as the children interact with their fathers. Also, the book tells young children what a father can do with them. The words and pictures show things such as buckling up seatbelts, fishing, cooking, reading and brushing teeth. The final page of the text asks, "What is your dad like?" The book's focus is the various types of fathers. It does not address situations where a child does not have a father at home. 2004, Gareth Stevens Publishing, Ages 3 to 7.βNicole Peterson
