Children's Literature

Everybody has a mom, and each mother is unique. This book is written to teach young children the concept of family, and specifically how the mother fits into the family. Children as young as three years old (and possibly younger) will be able to grasp the concepts in this book. The text is written in a large font and is simple, so early readers can sound out the words and look at the pictures. Each page has a beautiful photograph to describe the text. The book explains adoption, pregnancy, stepfamilies, and even grandparents. Diverse groups of families are shown in the pictures, and most children should be able to identify with at least one of the situations. This "Meet the Family" series is good for kids at home or in the classroom because of the diversity of situations described and pictured. 2004, Gareth Stevens Publishing, Ages 3 to 7.
