Gr 5-7-These well-organized books should be considered as replacements for aging introductions to these subjects. Double-page chapters introduce topics such as "The atmosphere and the weather" and "What is nuclear power?" through brief paragraphs of information. Numerous colorful photographs, graphs, and diagrams with informative captions add details on each spread. In both titles, the authors present the U.S. refusal to sign the Kyoto Protocol in a neutral tone. Both books include simple experiments to reinforce the concepts presented and boxed, practical suggestions of actions that will help protect the environment. Plenty of white space on each page will lure reluctant readers.
