Overview

Preschoolers love guessing games--and that's what they get in Finger Quiz books. Eddie, a comical duck, uses a cartoon-style illustration on every page to pose a question. At the bottom of the page are three possible answers in the form of three smaller pictures, each with a round finger hole die-cut through the page. Only one hole points to the right answer. Kids make their guess by putting their finger into just one of the holes, then flipping the page to find the answer. They'll see Eddie Duck pointing at one hole. If it's the hole that matches their finger, they've answered the question correctly! 30 finger quizzes on heavyweight paper in each book. Kids study a picture, then check questions to find details that match it. For instance, what's the opposite of a hot, bright sun? A bowl of hot soup? A bitter lemon? Or a very cold ice cream cone? Kids will find lots more opposites in this Finger Quiz. (Ages 4-6)

Children's Literature

Opposites is an easy-to-play-with book for children and it is fun. Each page has a picture with a question at the top and three pictures, showing possible answers, at the bottom. Below each answer is a little hole. Using the index finger, children select an answer by putting their finger through the hole beneath the answer. Then they turn the page and if their finger is in the hole that Eddie Duck is pointing to, they have picked the right answer. For example, "The soda pop tastes great. Elvis's glass is already empty. Which one of his friends still has a full glass?" The illustrations are humorous and colorful. A great book to test and increase children's knowledge and to have fun. One small problemβ€”the answer to the question "Which thing really isn't sharp-cornered at all, but round?" seems unclear. Part of the "Eddie's Finger Quiz" series. 2000 (orig. 1999), Barron's Educational Series, . Ages 4 to 7. Reviewer: Ute Krappen-Clancy
