Gr 3-4-These attractive titles offer minimal information about the physical appearance, habitat, eating habits, predators, and behavior of their respective subject animals. The easy-to-read, conversational texts, with vocabulary words set in bold, are boxed in unobtrusive grids, thus drawing the eye to the crystal-clear color photos (some of them merely decorative). The books are interesting enough to whet readers' appetites but aren't substantial enough for reports.-Nancy Call, Santa Cruz Public Libraries, Aptos, CA Copyright 2007 Reed Business Information.School Library Journal
K-Gr 4This attractive photo-essay looks at how ostriches are born, what they eat, how they run and protect themselves, and more. Each spread includes a full-page, full-color photograph of average to above-average quality that zeros in on the topic or attribute under discussion. Suitable for young readers, the text covers the basics of ostrich behavior and life cycles in a lively conversational manner. Though this title is not a first choice for reports, readers can glean plenty of information from the presentation and will enjoy the large graphic format.Charlyn Lyons, formerly at Wichita Public Library, KSBook Details
