A red fox is a nocturnal animal that can be found in parts of North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Nocturnal animals are awake at night when most animals are sleeping. Red foxes make their homes, also called dens, inside trees and in holes found in hillsides. Foxes come in a variety of colors including reddish brown, silver, and black. These fuzzy animals can weigh up to thirty pounds. When sleeping, foxes wrap their fluffy tails around their faces as a way to stay warm. Mother foxes give birth to baby foxes, called kits. A kit is born with gray fur, but the fur usually changes color within the first month. In the wild, a fox can live up to four years. This nonfiction easy reader is the sixth book in a series entitled "Nocturnal Animals." The book is geared for kindergarten and first grade readers. Children will enjoy looking at the colorful, crisp photographs found on each page. The book is written using age appropriate text and simple sentences. This book includes a table of contents, an index, a glossary, and a reference page.
