Gr 3-6-These clearly written, well-organized books present a well-rounded account of the rodeo, focusing on its history, the animals, and the people. Colorful photographs enhance readers' understanding of the material presented. Lists of rodeo stars and associations are included in each title. Ropers and Riders covers calf roping, team roping, and steer roping. In Steer Wrestling, readers learn that this event was invented by Bill Pickett, an African-American cowboy, in the early 1900s. Welcome! gives an overview and history of the rodeo, with a brief description of each event. Chapters are devoted to the animals and the steps taken to insure their safety. Cowgirls are included in all three books. Interesting and informative additions.-Lana Miles, Duchesne Academy, Houston, TX Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.|
