Reports on results of fieldwork conducted in Yogyakarta Special Region in Indonesia in 1991-92, with the aim of assessing consequences of the strengthening of urban-rural linkages upon local development in five hinterland communities. Emphasis is on employment issues, especially with regard to diversification of the economy, and on the process of urbanization and suburban communities for socioeconomic and physical changes.
