Gr 6 Up-A collection of 22 activities, organized into 7 chapters, that help students understand weather phenomena and forecasting. Each experiment is preceded by an introduction and a clear statement of purpose. Materials, most of which are readily available, are listed; suppliers are found in an appendix. Directions are clear and black-and-white diagrams aid in the construction of apparatus. Safety rules are presented at the beginning of the book; additionally, the need for adult supervision and safety precautions appear in bold print where needed. The sections on building a weather station and using data to summarize and predict weather and climate patterns are particularly well developed. Gardner asks questions extensively to focus attention on what is being done and on specific outcomes. Investigations suitable for being modified and extended for science fairs are marked with an asterisk; ``Exploring on Your Own'' and ``Just for Fun'' sections suggest further research. This title will not disappoint students and teachers looking for interesting, challenging projects on an ever-fascinating subject.-Carolyn Angus, The Claremont Graduate School, CABook Details
