Reviews the methods for obtaining and analyzing data for the statistical modelling of biological populations in which the individuals pass through a series of distinct developmental stages, for example, egg, larva, adult. The models discussed were selected for their potential in investigating specificing populations, and any utility in theoretical studies of general populations is mentioned only briefly if at all. Predictive models are likewise not considered except to demonstrate how the simpler models can be used as part of more complicated ones.
