Gr 7 UpChaiet takes a get-down-to-basics approach to personal safety. She emphasizes being prepared and makes readers aware that there are dangers inherent in every situation. Fictionalized scenarios are included, followed by a series of steps for coping with the problem on many different levels. The large print and black-and-white and full-color photographs make these volumes appealing to reluctant readers. Statistics are included, but sources are not always cited, and some are incomplete.
