The oversized type and abundant white space add to the readability of the texts. Each spread features a page of narrative opposite a well-captioned historical engraving, some tinted, or an excellent-quality photograph (mostly in color in Pony Express). The suggested Web sites listed in Transcontinental Railroad are particularly interesting.
