German scholars have dismissed the Old Saxon (continental) fragment of Genesis as a poor imitation of a better poem. English scholars have considered the Old English/West Saxon Genesis B an independent poem of the insular Anglo-Saxons. Here the two are presented as separate developments of a lost original that may have been an extensive cycle in Carolingian times. The poems are not translated, but are thoroughly annotated. The discussion explores aspects of the texts and the manuscripts. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)Book Details
