Synopsis
Jack Rabbit says it's a great day to make tumbleweed stew, but who wants to eat that? With a bit of ingenuity, Jack soon has everyone from Armadillo to Vulture adding something to his delectable stew.
About the Authors:
Susan Stevens Crummel is a high school teacher as well as an author. She has collaborated with Janet Stevens, her sister, on several picture books.
Janet Stevens is the author-illustrator of the Caldecott Honor book Tops & Bottoms and the illustrator of Anne Miranda's To Market, To Market, an ABBY Honor book, as well as many other picture books. Her picture books have won numerous state awards voted on by children.

In this Stone Soup variant, Jack Rabbit tricks the other animals into sharing their vegetables to create a delicious stew. It begins with Jack Rabbit proclaiming that he can make a delicious stew from a tumbleweed. Armadillo decides that it might be better with a few carrots, then Buzzard offers some onions, Deer brings corn, Skunk adds potatoes, and Rattlesnake contributed celery. The resulta delicious stew shared by all. The story is fun and the illustrations of the animals and ingredients are full of humor. The introduction describes the levels in the "Green Light Reader" series and provides some helpful tips to those working with kids.
