About the Author, James B Beard

James B Beard was born in Bradford, Ohio, in 1935, earned a BSc degree from Ohio State University in 1957, Summa cum laude, and both MSc and PhD degrees from Purdue University in 1959 and 1961, respectively. He subsequently was awarded a National Science Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Life Science Department at the University of California–Riverside in 1969. He has held research-teaching positions on the faculties at Michigan State University from 1961 to 1975 and Texas A&M University from 1975 to 1992, and served as Interim Head of Soil and Crop Science Department in 1980. He founded the International Sports Turf Institute, Inc. in 1992. Dr. Beard is an international advisor and lecturer on turfgrass issues. He has published over 260 scientific research papers and over 400 popular technical articles.
