Gr 4-7-Two-page introductions for budding artists include supplies, tips, and several words of encouragement from the author, as well as advice to pay attention to the spaces between the drawn lines as well as to the lines themselves and to "Practice, practice, practice." Each animal or watercraft is presented on a spread, with a little information about each one. The drawings are presented in six steps. Additions to each step are made in red. There is a considerable jump from the initial drawing to the shaded and colored final product; this is particularly true in Watercraft. These titles are on the same level or slightly easier than Lee J. Ames's "Draw 50" books (Doubleday). The "You Can Draw" series (DK) devotes more space to creating perspective, shading, and detail. Observant young artists will find enjoyment in trying out Peterson's subject matter.-Kathryn Kosiorek, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Brooklyn, OH Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
