Children's Literature
The Clark family has a saying that states that every red head child will become famous. This statement was certainly true in the case of William Clark, of the "Lewis and Clark" expedition to what we now know as the western part of the United States. This textbook describes the life of William Clark, from his time in the military, his famous exploration into unchartered territory, and his return back to civilization. Clark paved the way for western expansion and development of the new territories. This series is wonderful for children because the sections are short (one or two pages each), with large print and many pictures and photographs on each page to help visualize the concepts that are being discussed in the book. The pictures and graphics also have large captions to describe what the student is seeing. This book, while learning about William Clark, is also an interesting way for to children about American history. Part of the "American Lives" series. 2004, Heinemann Library, Ages 8 to 10.βNicole Peterson
