Children's Literature

Wind is moving air. The sun hearts the air; warm air moves up and cooler air moves down. Strong winds can blow in storms, as well as blow them away. Wind can spread seeds and help us travel in the air and on water. This Level One reader is part of the "Wonder Books" series designed to help young children learn to read while reading to learn. This is part of a new emphasis on nonfiction material in all levels of reading development. The text is very large and each page contains no more than two sentences, most pages just have one. A photograph illustrates each page of text. The photographs range from very straightforward to more expressionistic. A little girl flies a kite with her dad, a sun sets on the water and wind blows grass on the prairie. Blurred and out-of-focus photographs of a hurricane and dandelion seeds are more unusual. A glossary of new words is included. 2003, The Child's World, Ages 4 to 7.
